Why use the Equiboard Aqua TreadMill?
The Equiboard Aqua TreadMill allows pre-determination of water volume and walking speed on the treadmill depending on each animal.
This is because the height of the water changes the biomechanics of the horses’ movements:
- At the level of the carpus and ulna, the stride frequency decreases and the stride length increases, causing the horse to be forced to push the water.
- At the height of the carpal joint, the horse steps over the water, increasing axial rotation in the back.
- At elbow or shoulder height, axial rotation decreases due to increased water resistance, as the horse can no longer tread water. This increases pelvic flexion and decreases lateral flexion.
- High water levels result in cranial thoracic extension and thoracolumbar flexion.
